Hotep!

Thank you for visiting the Greater Boston Association of Black Social Workers, Inc – (GBABSW) website.  Here, you will learn more about our history, the guiding  principles that lead our service, and our upcoming events.

GREATER BOSTON ASSOCIATION OF BLACK SOCIAL WORKERS was organized in 1968 – as one of the founding chapters of the National Association of Black Social Workers, Inc. (NABSW).  As a local affiliate of the NABSW, we advocate for social change, justice and human development of African people in the United States and throughout the world. Greater Boston ABSW is comprised of social work  students, young professionals and seasoned practitioners of African ancestry who continue the struggle for justice and freedom. In addition to persistently pursuing the elevation of Black people, Greater Boston ABSW provides intensive training through a variety of workshops, seminars, and conferences. By sharing knowledge, we improve services to those we aid. We aim to promote our community’s welfare, survival, and liberation as well as advocate for social change at all levels of government.

From 1968 until today, we remain unyielding in impacting critical services, keeping our eyes upon African-centered thought and practices, and confronting the many and continual challenges antagonizing our communities. Membership information – including meeting  information – is available here.  As a member of Greater Boston ABSW you will have an opportunity to network with other, like-minded professionals as we advocate for policies, programs and practices to enhance the African-American family.

Our Code of Ethics guide our actions and determines how we serve all people, with an emphasis on Black people, who historically have received the least from social service programs.  Please join us!  You can help make a difference.  If you have questions about Greater Boston ABSW, contact us and follow us on social media.
